ALMS COTTAGES, WINCHCOMBE
This row of alms cottages was built in 1865 to house the needy of Winchcombe. The cottages, now privately owned, are lovingly cared for and make a memorable photo. In the early medieval times Winchcombe was the capital of the Saxon capital of Mercia.

NUMBER 5 STANWAY COTTAGE, STANWAY
Stanway Cottage, directly across the road from the village church and cemetery, may have been built as early as the 16th century as an almshouse for the benefit of the poor.
Stanway itself is a Cotswolds gem. But if you don’t watch closely, you’ll miss the turn-off leading to this English hamlet dating back to medieval times.

FALLING PETALS GARDEN, BROADWAY
The Garden. Rose bushes climb a golden Cotswold stone wall. A brief shower creates pale pink petals covering the pathway to the charming Broadway home. Many of the houses along Broadway’s main road, its High Street, were built in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

BROADWAY HIGH STREET, BROADWAY
The Street. Further down the High Street, summer week-day tourism thrives. Crowds from tour buses and day trip vacationing families pack shops, but almost no one goes further up the High Street. They don’t realize what they’re missing.
